The movie starts out with a businesswoman in her car in the streets of Toronto talking to her lover Sam about their anniversary. A Squeegee Girl, (Catherine Isabelle) offers to clean the woman’s window. The woman declines then offers money to the Squeegee Girl. The Squeegee Girl takes the money and hops into the woman’s car, against her wishes and instructs her boyfriend Jackson (Kett) to get in also. They beg the woman to drive them somewhere downtown. The woman reluctantly agrees to take them and tells them her name is Sarah. Squeegee Girl introduces herself as Jenna.

When the woman gets them to their destination they find that some guys who want to beat Jackson up are waiting there. They tell Sarah to keep driving but she refuses. After her refusal Jenna takes out a switchblade and Jackson pulls out a tiny gun. Jenna tells Sarah that if she doesn’t keep driving that she’ll cut her up. Sarah keeps driving and takes them out of the city. Whenever Jenna and Jackson need to talk privately they converse in French over Sarah.

They stopped at a gas station to refill the car's tank? then when they are back on the road Sarah threatens to crash the car into a truck. Afterwards Jenna drives the car and ends up driving them to an isolated cottage in the middle of no-where.

Inside the cottage, Jenna and Jackson tie Sarah to a chair and attempt to get money from her. After Sarah reveals her pin number, Jenna leaves in search of the nearest ATM, leaving Jackson alone with the woman. He unties her and allows her to wash up. Upon returning, Jenna picks on Jackson for being sweet on Sarah and shares the story of how she got the alcohol--giving some guy a blowjob.

Jenna goes back to the car and opens the hood. She examines it then cuts something with her switchblade. She goes inside the car and looks for some money but finds the spare key for the car instead. Meanwhile Jackson is in shed shirtless going over ways to try and get Jenna to let Sarah go.

Jenna finds a video camera in Sarah’s car and goes to the dock where she meets Jackson and asks if he wants to tape his swim. Jackson had a goal to swim across the lake; he thought it would be nice if Jenna would tape it.

Jenna and Jackson talk over a bond fire recording the bond fire. When they finish and decide to head off to bed, Jenna puts the tape on TV for Sarah to watch.

Later that night, having fallen asleep to the fire that has been burning for hours, Sarah suddenly awakens to the sound of a voice. She opens her eyes to see the tape that she herself made for Sam to commemorate their 5-year anniversary. Seeing the TV remote, Sarah attempts to turn off the tape, but manages only to tip the chair over and falls to the ground with it. She finally gets it turned off and goes back to sleep.

The next day, Jackson carries an axe around in the shed before venturing off to chop more wood. When he returns, he attempts to convince Jenna to let Sarah go, but Jenna has another plan. She tells him that if they keep Sarah, her lover Sam will probably come to save her and then they can lock Sam up, too. Jackson attempts to explain to Jenna that while she won’t go to jail for what they are doing, since she’s only seventeen, he will. Jenna gets mad and storms off into the woods.

In the woods, Jenna is making carvings of designs she created and placing pictures on trees of her family.

Shortly after that Sarah manages to free herself from her bonds and escapes to her car. While she is running there Jackson spots her. Sarah realizes that she doesn’t have the key to her car and breaks the window to get in. when she gets in she finds that her emergency key is missing.

Sarah tries to talk to Jackson telling him that Jenna is keeping things from her. Jackson doesn’t believe this but thinks about it. Sarah goes on about how Jenna is always wearing a sweater and that she must be hiding something. By now they are both sitting down and talking. Sarah tells Jackson that she wants him to kiss her. They start kissing and making out when she grabs for the key. Jackson stops her and tries to force her to keep making out. She gets a rock and hit’s him on the head with it.

Jackson is temporarily knocked out so Sarah is now trying to start the car (not knowing that Jenna messed with it). When she finds she can’t start the car she goes running through the forest.

Sarah comes across a bunch of trees with carvings and arrows pointing in a direction. She picks up one picture of a boy and a girl. She turns it over to find it says “Jacques and Jeanette” on the back. She realized that Jackson and Jenna weren’t really boyfriend and girlfriend but were really brother and sister. She finds a picture that looks sort of like her then looks a couple yards away to find Jenna sleeping on the ground.

Jenna and Sarah have a heart-to-heart conversation in the woods and on their way back to the cabin. When they return, Sarah warns Jackson to stay away from her” Sarah or Jenna? “and the girls spend their time in the cabin ignoring Jackson. A dance-like sequence follows, Jackson and Jenna sleep together, and all seems to be well, despite the circumstances.

In the morning Jenna popped in Sarah’s video to watch. When it came to the point of the 5th anniversary, Jenna noticed that Sarah’s lover Sam was a woman and that Sarah was a lesbian. Jenna promised not to tell Jackson. The two had a little make out session then stopped. Jenna went out to go see Jackson.

As Jenna and Jackson return from the lake where Jackson was swimming, the guy that Jenna got the alcohol from (she cut his forehead and ran with the beer, the blowjob never happened) comes by to ask where Sarah is, because he knows the cabin is really hers. Jackson and Jenna claim that they are Sarah ’s children, but Carl doesn’t believe them—he wants to speak with Sarah himself. When she comes and they start talking, Carl notices the broken car window and begins questioning what is really going on.

Jackson felt threatened by Carl so he took a big piece of wood and hit him on the head knocking Carl to the ground. There was blood on Carls face. Carl looked as if he were dead. Jackson ran away into the woods.

Jenna raced after Jackson. After catching up to him she told him about how Sarah was the only witness and if they killed Sarah then he would be off free and no one could prove that he killed Carl.

Sarah called for Jackson and Jenna saying that everything would be completely fine. When Jackson and Jenna came out of the woods they were planning to kill Sarah. Sarah demanded the keys to Carl’s truck so that they could drive away. Jackson threw the keys on the ground in front of Sarah, she went to take them as she did Jackson grabbed and held onto her while Jenna was going to slice her with her switch blade. As this was happening Jackson put the key back around his neck.

Sarah convinced them to let go and Jackson remembered about Jenna hiding something from him. He demanded that she show him her arms. Jenna refused, Jackson pushed for her to do so and when she did he saw that she had cuts all over her arm. Jackson cried that it was his entire fault that she was like this and he ran off towards the lake.

When he reaches it, he pulls the keys off his neck and dives in. Before he starts swimming, he tells Jenna that this is one of those moments that everything changes and she should videotape it with the camera. He starts swimming across the lake.

Jenna and Sarah cried knowing that Jackson would never make it to the other side and that he was committing suicide. About a minute later he drowned in the lake.

The scene changes to Jenna and Sarah in Carl’s truck driving back into the city. Sarah let Jenna walk off into the distance. In the next scene Sarah is telling investigators that the ones who held her captive had run away into the forest and she never saw them again.
